Fabrik
A powerful + intuitive + flexible synthesizer. Built for sound discovery.
The idea
Fabrik is a visual way to think about sound.
Imagine a setup with an electric guitar, a distortion pedal, an amplifier, and a speaker. Most musicians intuitively understand how to wire those together. If you were to sketch it, you’d draw a flowchart, one box connected to the next. That’s exactly how Fabrik works.

Fabrik turns sound design into signal flow. You build your sound using visual nodes. Oscillators, LFOs, envelopes, and noise generators form the foundation. Waveshapers, math functions, and basic shapes sculpt the signal. Finally, effects like distortion, filters, delay, and reverb bring everything to life.
The beauty of Fabrik is that every connection is yours to make. You’re not locked into fixed paths. Want to modulate a filter frequency by a shaper, controlled by an oscillator, which is modulated by an lfo? Just drag the cables. Fabrik is limitless.
It’s a modular playground where the rules are simple… but the possibilities are endless.

Unlocking a new dimension of sounds with feedback synthesis
One of the most powerful tools in Fabrik is the Signal Delay block. It allows you to route a signal back into itself, creating a feedback loop, similar to when a microphone catches its own output from a speaker.
These feedback loops aren’t just a gimmick. They’re everywhere in the natural world, and in Fabrik, they unlock an entire dimension of sonic textures that most synths can’t reach.
Some users build aggressive basses for drum and bass. Others create realistic snare drums, horns, or evolving ambient soundscapes. The result depends on what you feed back, and what you place inside the loop. By adjusting the delay time, you control how quickly the loop builds and how it behaves. It’s like capturing a moment of sound and sending it back at just the right time.
This kind of synthesis is impossible in traditional plugins. In Fabrik, it’s part of the core experience.

Making exploration the focus of sound design
Most synth companies will tell you they focus on sound quality and sound design. And yes, we do too. But what excites us most is something else entirely: exploring what’s possible with modern sound technology.
Ever wondered if you could build an entire techno track inside a single preset? Stack unison blocks into 100+ voices? Create a feedback loop where a set of nodes modulate each other across every parameter? Or even shape the flow of time itself… stretching a loop rhythmically with an LFO, without affecting pitch?
You don’t need a destination. Just start connecting things. Try an envelope into a distortion curve, or modulate a filter cutoff with an LFO that’s itself being shaped by another wave. More often than not, you’ll stumble into something strange, inspiring, or downright beautiful.
How Fabrik became intuitive to use
Fabrik has been shaped by musicians, sound designers, and beginners alike. We tested it with people who know synthesis inside and out, and people who’ve never opened a modular environment before. Some users had a background in music theory, others came from visual arts or math.
Everyone brought different expectations… and we listened.
That feedback helped us create something truly intuitive. A system that feels natural whether you’re used to working in DAWs, design software, or hardware synths. And if you ever find something confusing, we want to hear from you. We’re committed to making Fabrik clear, friendly, and accessible.

FAQs
Is Fabrik a modular synth?
Not exactly. While Fabrik shares some ideas with modular synths, like patching blocks together, it’s much closer to tools like Blender’s shader editor or TouchDesigner’s node system. Each block has a clear purpose, usually just one input and one output, and everything’s designed to be visual, intuitive, and hard to break. You don’t need to know modular synthesis to use Fabrik. If you can follow signal flow, you’re good to go.
What’s different to Bitwig’s The Grid?
The Grid is an incredible sound design tool, and it’s helped a lot of people explore modular synthesis. But it’s deeply tied to Bitwig and follows a specific workflow. Fabrik takes a different approach: it’s DAW-agnostic, beginner-friendly, and designed to encourage open-ended exploration. With Fabrik you can connect anything with anything.
How CPU-intensive is Fabrik?
We’ve optimized the heck out of Fabrik… it runs smoothly on most computers without breaking a sweat. Even with big patches and lots of voices, performance is solid. If things ever do get heavy, you can turn off anti-aliasing in the settings for an instant speed boost. That said, it’s rarely necessary.
Why not just use Serum or Vital?
Serum and Vital are fantastic synths that have shaped modern electronic music. But Fabrik offers a deeper level of control. Instead of a fixed layout, you get a modular system where you can rewire everything. Fabrik may look more complex at first, but it’s actually more flexible, and often more intuitive, once you dive in. It’s like being able to look inside Serum and reconfigure it from scratch.
Do I need to know math?
Not at all. Fabrik doesn’t require any math knowledge to use. While understanding math or technical concepts can sometimes enhance your sound design process, it’s not a prerequisite. You can just drag, connect, and listen.
Can I use Fabrik for live performance?
Yes! Fabrik was built with real-time control in mind. It responds instantly to MIDI and automation, making it great for live tweaking. Many users perform with it directly inside their DAWs, and it’s also a great candidate for setups using controllers or macros. Load up a preset, assign a few knobs, and you’re ready to go.
Do I need to know sound design?
No experience necessary. Fabrik is about discovery. If you already know certain techniques, that’s great… but even we, the developers, often stumble on new ideas by connecting random blocks together. You don’t need to know the rules to start having fun. And if you prefer not to build your own patches, you can always dive into our massive collection of presets.
